Really, nobody likes a prophet. If they predict the future and their future does not come to pass, they are mocked and ridiculed and, depending on your book of rules, they may be killed. If on the other hand the prophet accurately predicts the future, they are still mocked and scorned because almost always, the future they predict is not a very happy one.
Some think that Friedrich Nietzsche was a prophet all right, a prophet of the Anti-Christ. Although Nietzsche might even accept that title, at least provisionally, he would likely say that he wasn't the one who killed God - all of mankind is responsible and he was just pointing out the fact. And although many (but probably a much lower percentage than in the past) still believe in a god or gods, Nietzsche acknowledged that it will take a while for this reality to sink in. Certainly the last century or so, with the ascendence of a political philosophy that expressly rejects god and allows the massive slaughter of humans, not, as in previous centuries, because of the god they worship, but because of the nation they worship, might make one willing, even if reluctantly, to acknowledge Nietzsche's prophetic credentials.
What was more important to Nietzsche was how humanity will respond to this massive change in their world view and belief systems. Nietzsche was concerned that most people would respond by either turning the nation state into a god, or believing in nothing at all. Both of those choices are bad news for the future of mankind.
Nietzsche claimed that the only way out of this existential dilemma was to embrace individualism and creativity, so that humanity can continue to evolve and become stronger and more intelligent. He acknowledged that this would not be easy, and that most people would prefer to just remain part of the herd, and that most indeed would consider those who were creative individualists to be dangerous and a threat.
When you quote Also Sprach Zarathustra to most people, or attempt to discuss Nietzsche's ideas, the common responses seem to be scorn, ridicule, accusations of selfishness and unconcern for humanity, and of course charges of Satanism, immorality, and being a Nazi. I guess the herd really doesn't like individualists.
