Historically, during periods of social and political corruption and disintegration, in addition to economic misery, tyranny, war, famine and epidemics, a society in decline commonly exhibits a change in their style of speech. Namely, speaking and writing, particularly public speaking and writing, but also even casual speech, is characterized by emotional outbursts, irrational statements, rhetorical bullshit, and outright lies. This can become so normal that when someone just simply and plainly tells the truth, people think they are crazy, or become greatly offended. Today is one of those periods, if you haven't figured that out yet.
Most people never recognize the bullshit that is coming out of their mouths, and will vehemently defend their lies and madness to the end. One reason for this is fear, another is stupidity, but mostly it is just laziness - most people want to say and believe the same things that most other people say and believe. They want to fit in with the herd. And so when someone says something that doesn't fit the herd narrative, they can respond angrily, even violently.
But during these times, some people decide to speak the truth. Some of the greatest philosophies and religions have been based on telling the truth - both to themselves and each other. Both the Greek Cynics and the early Christians were known for speaking the truth - even when it was inconvenient or dangerous.
Yes there is some danger in telling the truth, but there are also great benefits, to you as an individual and to each other.
