Former Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Skylar Thompson is accused of turning a Flock camera network into a personal stalking service, and the numbers are grotesque enough to make any sensible person’s head spin.

According to prosecutors, Thompson searched his girlfriend’s license plate 2,055 times between December 31, 2025, and August 2, 2026. That amounts to eight or nine searches a day for more than seven months. Not a single emergency. Not a single legitimate investigation. None of it accidental. It was a repeated, deliberate effort to pinpoint where a private citizen had been seen.

And how did he justify it? Court records show Thompson labeled every one of those searches “city planning/traffic analysis,” even though he’d never been assigned city planning or traffic analysis duties.

This abuse of power came to light only because of a routine system audit. Thompson reportedly resigned the day he was confronted and now faces a Level 6 felony charge of official misconduct and a misdemeanor fraud charge. As of now, these are just allegations and the case still has to proceed through the court system, but the reported search volume alone should make every community using flock technology stop and ask some tough questions.

Flock cameras are marketed as public safety. But former Jackson County Deputy Skylar Thompson is now charged after using the system to search his girlfriend’s license plate 2,055 times in just over seven months. That’s not public safety. That’s technological stalking with a badge, a login, and a surveillance network paid for or installed in the name of “security.”

Give power to the wrong person, or to a person who thinks a badge puts them above the law, and it becomes a stalking and retaliation tool, and a legal cover to invisibly and illegally spy on an ex, intimate partner, neighbor, activist, or anyone else who catches the attention of someone with access.

And no, existing “policies” aren’t enough. Policies didn’t prevent these searches from taking place to begin with. A routine audit found them only after more than two thousand queries.

If communities insist on not fighting to have them all removed, at the very least, they need to push for strict limits, independent audits, meaningful penalties, short data retention periods, full transparency about who can access these systems, and a real public say before another surveillance network gets planted across their streets.

A system that can be used to stalk someone thousands of times isn’t simply a crime fighting tool. It’s a power system. And power without real accountability will always be abused by those with ill-intent.

There’s a kind of freedom that settles into those who have broken through their conditioning. It’s irreversible and impossible to counterfeit. It emerges after the unraveling of internalized control, and after the healing of what once bound them in psychological or physical captivity. Few recognize it for what it is, and even fewer can meet it without resistance.

Iran’s government is repressive. That’s the reality. But Washington doesn’t get to dress up military escalation as a humanitarian concern while it’s launching strikes inside Iran, trading missile attacks across the region, and threatening more retaliation. They dress it up, as they historically do, as liberation. But it isn’t liberation at all. It’s escalation with better public relations.

The United States doesn’t even reliably defend the rights of its own people. It tolerates warrantless immigration arrests and deportations, treats protest and recording law enforcement as suspicious behavior, taxes the working class into the poor house, allows insurance companies to deny coverage and approval for life-saving treatments, and expands the surveillance state exponentially every year while politicians lecture the rest of the world about “freedom” and human dignity.

Then comes the usual, predictable sales pitch: Iran must be punished, American “credibility” must be restored, and somehow more bombs are the only solution adults with too much power can come up with. Meanwhile, weapons manufacturers see new contracts, defense contractors see new deployments, pundits see new television appearances, and politicians see new donor opportunities.

The average Iranian won’t profit from this. The average American won’t either. We’ll get the bills, the dead, the blowback, and another round of fear and hype used to justify more war.

The Military Industrial Complex doesn’t care about democracy in Iran any more than Washington cares about civil liberties at home. It cares about enemies, escalation, and invoices. Don’t be deceived.

Americans in particular have been conditioned to confuse wealth, ownership, and accumulation with success itself. From childhood, we’re taught that a person’s value can be measured by income, status, property, productivity, and their ability to rise above others. Poverty’s framed as personal failure, while extreme wealth is treated as proof of intelligence, discipline, or moral superiority. That obscures a more uncomfortable reality: the economic game wasn’t designed to offer equal opportunity or reward human worth. It was designed to preserve the advantage of those already positioned to win.

In a system where profit’s treated as the highest good, ruthless self-interest, indifference to harm, manipulation, and a willingness to exploit others can be rewarded rather than restrained. That doesn’t mean every successful person is narcissistic, sociopathic, or psychopathic. It means the structure favors people willing to treat relationships, labor, land, and even human suffering as resources to be converted into personal gain.

The result is a culture that mistakes accumulation for achievement. People are pushed to work themselves into exhaustion just to remain housed, fed, insured, and solvent, then told they’ve failed if they can’t escape the debt and insecurity built into the system. Meanwhile, those who profit from the arrangement are celebrated as innovators, leaders, and “self-made” successes, even when their wealth depends on inherited advantage, underpaid labor, extraction, political access, or other people’s desperation.

This is elitism, but it isn’t excellence. It’s an elitism reduced almost entirely to economics. Whoever possesses the most is presumed to matter most. But the values that actually make life meaningful and communities durable, like care, reciprocity, humility, integrity, mutual responsibility, creativity, and a commitment to protecting the vulnerable, can’t be accurately priced, accumulated, or displayed as status symbols.

Capitalism may be central to what America has come to mean, but it doesn’t define life itself. It doesn’t get to determine human worth, the meaning of time, or the conditions under which people deserve dignity. Those who name this reality openly deserve to be heard without scorn or dismissal. So do the ideas capable of reshaping the infrastructure of American life that make it more representative of our shared humanity, rather than a confined economic system engineered around clear winners and losers.

Anarchy isn’t a synonym for communism, and it isn’t inherently leftist. Those associations are historically and artificially contrived, not essential.

“Left” and “right” are political constructs born out of state centric systems. They’re ways of organizing power within structures of authority. Anarchy contrasts this by rejecting the legitimacy of imposed authority altogether. It doesn’t reposition power along a spectrum. It questions why that spectrum exists at all.

Communism, especially in its politicized forms, preserves centralized control under a different justification. Leftism more broadly still operates within the logic of governance, policy, and institutional power. Anarchy exists outside that logic entirely. It isn’t about managing power differently, but evolving beyond coercive power structures altogether.

Reducing anarchy to a subset of leftism oversimplifies it into something it fundamentally isn’t: just another ideology competing for control. In reality, it’s a critique of the entire political architecture that makes such competition relevant or meaningful in the first place.

When people demand anger instead of acknowledgment, they’re not really asking for truth. They’re asking for emotional conformity and performance, or a sign that you’ll join the chorus instead of standing silently at the edge. Outrage has become a kind of social currency. A way of proving you belong, and showing that you care the “right” way.

The cycle feeds on itself. Each burst of anger brings dopamine, applause, and the soothing illusion of moral certainty. The more you shout, the more you’re rewarded, and before long, the noise starts to feel like purpose. But over time, it drains something essential. People burn out. Empathy fades. What’s left is the ritual itself, a kind of addiction, which is a contest of purity that mistakes reaction for depth and sincerity.

Anarchists have a tendency to see that pattern for what it is. It mirrors the same hierarchy and systemic dependency that run through politics and social media alike. They’re systems that keep replicating themselves by feeding on emotion and validation.

For the sake of clarity, let’s call it “the outrage economy”, which, like the old political spectrum it energizes, is a kind of theater that divides people into camps so the structures can keep standing. Nothing about it is organic. It’s pure manufactured self-perpetuating gimmickry. It feeds on itself. Year after year, protestors still cry about ending conflicts that any sane system, if there is such a thing, would have ended decades or centuries ago, or at least not participated in at all.

Authentic attention, grief, or steady compassion cuts straight across that artificial system and can’t be gamed by algorithms or turned into moral performance. That’s why I personally don’t participate like most do, which consumers of the outrage economy are addicted to calling “apathy”. To feel without broadcasting, care without turning it into spectacle, have a hobby without providing a play-by-play for an audience, is to step outside the scripts *all* “sides” in every direction keep replaying.

Nonperformance is an authentic form of resistance, not indifference. So yes, it’s completely valid to say: I see what’s happening and I care deeply, but I’m not joining the performance. Choosing autonomy doesn’t mean apathy. It means refusing to be captured by a cycle that feeds on sincerity until it becomes noise.

Has your protest become repetitive and habitual and turned into noise, or are you still “in it to win it?” Why does nothing significant within the system ever change except the players who game it once every four to eight years?

I don’t advocate corporatism, and I don’t find markets inherently offensive either.

As an anarchist, I’m not writing this in support of capitalism, socialism, nationalism, or any state managed economic system. I’m making a distinction that all too often is lost on most people. Recognizing what goes wrong within the systems people currently live under is not the same as endorsing those systems. Most people are still attached to a country, its institutions, currency, healthcare structure, and its economy whether they want to be or not. Until people have freer and more humane alternatives, it matters to talk honestly about how the existing structures could do less harm.

A genuinely free market is not the same thing as a corporate government cartel where well-connected businesses write regulations, receive bailouts, capture industries, suppress competition, and then call the result “capitalism.” That isn’t freedom. It’s privilege protected by power.

People should be free to earn, trade, barter with their neighbors, start small businesses, create voluntary currencies and mutual aid arrangements, own property, and profit from the value they create. Earning money, making a profit, and accumulating wealth aren’t inherently moral failures. The problem begins when wealth is built through manipulation, monopoly, political favoritism, predatory dependence, or a system designed to keep ordinary people permanently desperate.

I reject the arrogance of the political right when it acts as though putting profits over human lives is normal, acceptable, or inevitable. If a system treats people as disposable inputs, denies them lifesaving care, poisons communities, traps workers in poverty, or exploits crisis for profit, that isn’t liberty. It’s inhumanity with a price tag.

But I also reject the entitlement embedded in the “eat the rich” mentality, which is the bright idea that no one should be allowed to prosper beyond some arbitrary line, or that success itself automatically proves theft. People aren’t made equal by punishing achievement, confiscating every reward, or handing the state more control over their labor and choices. Wealth isn’t automatically exploitation any more than poverty automatically makes someone virtuous.

Both extremes fail because both reduce people to something that can be managed by corporations in one case and by bureaucracies in the other.

Canada and the United States show two different versions of the same underlying problem. Canada isn’t pure socialism, and the United States isn’t a free market. Both are economic hybrids. Canada leans more heavily toward centralized public systems, while the United States protects corporate power through regulation, subsidies, licensing barriers, insurance-company influence, and political connections.

Canada’s healthcare system does provide universal public coverage for many medically necessary hospital and physician services, but universal coverage doesn’t automatically mean timely access. People can wait months for specialist appointments, testing, surgeries, and routine care, even while the country faces doctor shortages and difficulty retaining medical professionals. Canada also has a serious housing affordability problem. People shouldn’t have to accept that they’ll be permanently priced out of stable housing in a country that calls itself compassionate.

That doesn’t mean the answer is to abandon people to an American-style system where profit is allowed to determine whether someone receives care at all. The United States has enormous medical resources, technological innovation, and world class treatment, but many Americans can’t afford coverage in the first place. Even people with insurance can be buried under deductibles, copays, exclusions, prior authorizations, denied claims, and medical debt. A person can technically “have insurance” and still be unable to afford the care they need.

Canada’s MAiD system raises another question that shouldn’t be dismissed with slogans. I’m not saying every person who chooses MAiD does so because of poverty, housing insecurity, disability, or lack of care. Many people facing terminal illness and unbearable physical suffering make an informed choice that they believe preserves their dignity.

But a society has a moral obligation to ask what “choice” means when a person can’t get adequate medical treatment, pain care, disability support, housing accommodations, income security, community care, or palliative support. No one should ever feel that death is more attainable than the help required to make life bearable.

That’s the distinction I’m making. I’m not asking for more state control, more bureaucratic authority, more corporate power, or blind loyalty to any economic ideology. I’m acknowledging that people still have to survive inside these systems, and that they deserve better than being told to choose between exploitation by corporations and control by the state.

The practical direction, as I see it, is to reduce concentrated power wherever it exists.

✅ The country should end corporate welfare, regulatory capture, bailout culture, and laws that allow politically connected businesses to dominate markets while calling it competition.

✅ The country should protect small-scale exchange, local trade, bartering, cooperatives, mutual aid, independent work, voluntary associations, and community currencies.

✅ The country should make it easier to build housing by removing artificial restrictions, exclusionary zoning, unnecessary permitting barriers, and policies that reward scarcity while ordinary people are priced out.

✅ The country should ensure that no one is denied essential emergency or catastrophic medical care because they’re poor, while also refusing to let either government bureaucracies or insurance companies control every medical decision.

✅ The country should expand access to doctors, nurses, clinics, training opportunities, independent care models, disability services, pain treatment, palliative care, housing options, and real community support.

And before a person is expected to see death as their only dignified escape, society should make damn sure they’ve been offered every meaningful way to live with dignity first.

I don’t need to worship billionaires, corporations, the state, or any ideology that demands obedience. I want a world where people can prosper without exploiting others, where no one is abandoned because they’re poor or sick, where communities are free to care for each other without asking permission, and where people retain the freedom to shape their own lives, exchanges, and futures.

That isn’t an endorsement of the systems we have. It’s an acknowledgment that while people are still forced to navigate them, they should at least be made less cruel, less coercive, and less hostile to human dignity.

So if neither corporate cronyism nor centralized state control has delivered real freedom, security, dignity, or access to life’s necessities, what would it look like to move forward by decentralizing power, strengthening voluntary community support, protecting individual autonomy, and making it easier for people to build stable lives without being controlled by either corporations or the state?

Political labels typically promise a clean divide: left versus right, capitalist versus communist, progressive versus traditionalist, libertarian versus authoritarian. But political movements rarely stay ideologically pure. Factions that define themselves against one system can still borrow that system’s methods, assumptions, and habits of control when those tools help them gain power, enforce unity, or shape society around a preferred vision.

That’s especially true when a movement becomes obsessed with sameness. Forced sameness is always a warning sign, no matter whose banner it flies under. It can arrive through state ideology, biological sorting, technological “enhancement,” corporate incentives, social punishment, cultural conformity, or the demand that people give up their differences for some supposedly higher collective purpose. The language may change, but the message doesn’t. Your natural differences, personal choices, inherited traits, beliefs, and individuality are obstacles to someone else’s planned future.

A movement may condemn communism while adopting its impulse to subordinate the individual to an abstract collective. It may condemn fascism or eugenics while embracing the idea that some people, bodies, minds, cultures, or family lines are more desirable than others. It may defend free markets while allowing corporations to pressure people through employment, speech rules, identity demands, health decisions, or access to ordinary services. It may speak the language of liberation while treating dissent, tradition, ambiguity, or personal independence as defects that need to be corrected.

Eugenics wasn’t only a historical program of sterilization or racial hierarchy. It was a fundamental belief that human beings could be sorted, managed, improved, and selectively shaped according to standards set by people who claimed the authority to decide what counted as fit, useful, advanced, healthy, productive, or worthy. That logic can return in modern forms even when nobody calls it “eugenics.” Whenever people are pressured to become more acceptable through biological intervention, ideological conformity, technological modification, social exclusion, or the suppression of difference, the same dangerous instinct is at work, which is the belief that human dignity depends on meeting an imposed standard.

Authoritarianism doesn’t belong exclusively to the left or the right, either. It shows up wherever institutions demand obedience over conscience, uniformity over pluralism, and compliance over genuine consent. Government does it through law. Corporations do it through jobs and access to services. Social movements do it through ostracism, public shaming, and ideological litmus tests. Culture does it by teaching people that acceptance depends on repeating approved beliefs and rejecting the parts of themselves that others find inconvenient.

That’s the contradiction worth naming. Political factions typically only recognize coercion when it comes from their opponents. They see authoritarianism in the other side’s laws, censorship, propaganda, or social control, while excusing similar behavior from their own side as necessary, compassionate, efficient, modern, or morally urgent. But coercion doesn’t become humane just because it’s wrapped in the language of progress, security, equality, tradition, science, patriotism, or the public good.

A humane society doesn’t require people to become interchangeable. It recognizes that equality isn’t sameness. Equal dignity doesn’t mean identical beliefs, bodies, ambitions, families, cultures, or ways of living. People can share civic responsibilities and basic rights without being forced into one officially approved model of the “good” citizen.

An authentic test of any ideology isn’t only what it says it opposes, but what it’s willing to do to people in pursuit of its goals. If a movement requires people to erase themselves, deny their nature, abandon their conscience, or submit to a centrally approved identity in order to belong, it’s crossed from persuasion into domination. And domination is still domination whether it calls itself revolutionary, traditional, scientific, democratic, corporate, nationalist, progressive, or compassionate.

What are we even doing here? How does a country that never stops congratulating itself for its “due process” and protections of the “innocent until proven guilty” end up normalizing systems that track people first and ask questions later?

Flock cameras aren’t just about catching someone in the act. They create a searchable trail of where people drive, when they leave, who they see, and where they spend their time. Then that trail is handed to police departments and treated like a reservoir of possible suspicion. The assumption isn’t really that you’re innocent. It’s that you’re trackable, and therefore available to be investigated whenever someone with authority decides you’re worth looking at.

A plate reader alert isn’t proof of a crime. It’s a machine reading a plate under imperfect conditions and matching it to whatever data has been fed into the system. Plates get misread. Vehicles change owners. Tags are stolen. Records are wrong. But a mistaken “hit” can still become the beginning of a police narrative, and once they’ve settled on a person, almost anything can be made to look suspicious. Going to work, visiting someone, changing your route, being somewhere at an inconvenient time, for instance, and suddenly it all gets reframed as evidence.

And we’re supposed to trust that every officer with access will be principled, restrained, and incapable of using it for personal reasons? A badge doesn’t erase resentment, ego, obsession, prejudice, or the desire to control someone. It can give those things institutional cover. The officer who has a grudge, who’s politically vindictive, wants to keep tabs on an ex, or takes an unhealthy interest in someone they encountered doesn’t have to physically follow them anymore. They can simply pull up patterns of movement from behind a desk and call it “investigative work.”

That’s the part people keep trying to sweep under the rug: giving institutions more power doesn’t magically make the people inside them more trustworthy. It just gives their worst impulses more reach, secrecy, and legitimacy. Liberty lovers understand why this is dangerous. The government doesn’t collect this kind of power and then politely give it back. We’ve been pointing out the deeper problem forever: authority built on coercion will always find new ways to justify itself, expand itself, and insulate itself from consequences.

If the police have actual probable cause to track a specific person, they can go before a judge and ask for a warrant. If they can’t do that, then why should they have the power to sift through everyone’s movements anyway?

Privacy isn’t a favor the state grants to people it considers respectable. It’s a line that protects all of us from being turned into suspects on somebody else’s whim. Otherwise, what’s the point in having a constitution or the Bill of Rights?

Almost eleven days without power, and this isn’t simply the result of storm damage. It’s the predictable outcome of neglected infrastructure, poor planning, and a utility monopoly that’s been allowed to put profit ahead of the people it serves for decades.

Northern Indiana is facing an extraordinary outage. The storms beginning August 11 caused historic damage across the NIPSCO system, with roughly 370,000 total outages reported and more than 72,000 customers still without service on August 20. NIPSCO now expects some communities, including Gary and Portage, to remain without electricity until August 25, but there’s little evidence, based on how restoration has been handled so far, that this will actually happen. Some residents could face nearly two weeks in the dark, and in all likelihood, the outage could stretch into September.

As a former Floridian, I’ve lived through tropical storms and hurricanes. I know what widespread storm damage looks like. In places that regularly face extreme weather, crews mobilize quickly, systems are built with those risks in mind, and power is typically restored within hours or a few days, not nearly two weeks later, with the exception of catastrophic hurricanes. The difference isn’t that Florida never has failures. It’s that its infrastructure, emergency planning, and utility competition create more pressure to respond.

Here, NIPSCO holds a monopoly over an essential resource. Customers don’t get to choose another provider when service fails. They’re simply expected to wait, accept vague explanations, and watch restoration estimates get pushed back again and again. Meanwhile, power is reportedly going down again only hours after it has been restored in some areas. That isn’t a recovery. It’s evidence of a deeper failure in the grid itself.

There’s only so long officials and utility representatives can blame “storm damage” before people have to ask harder questions. What equipment was maintained? What was sold off? What upgrades were delayed? Where did the money go? Why is a multibillion dollar utility unable to provide dependable service for nearly two weeks during a declared state of emergency?

People are being told restoration is coming, only to have the goalposts moved once again. Families are losing food, medicine, income, sleep, access to refrigeration, communication, and basic safety. People are forced to spend money they may not have on ice, fuel, hotel rooms, restaurant meals, generators, and replacement groceries. For elderly people, disabled people, parents with children, and anyone dependent on electrically powered medical equipment, this isn’t merely inconvenient. It’s dangerous.

This is why self-sufficiency matters, not as an individualistic fantasy, but as a practical response to systems that have shown they can’t be trusted to protect the public. If you’re able, invest in ways to reduce your dependence on a fragile centralized grid: solar panels, battery backups, generators where appropriate, water storage and filtration, shelf stable food, gardens, community food networks, and mutual aid relationships with neighbors.

Growing some of your own food won’t fix a collapsed electrical grid, but it does create a measure of security when supply chains fail, stores are closed, refrigeration is lost, or prices surge during emergencies. Knowing your neighbors, sharing resources, checking on vulnerable people, and building local networks can matter just as much as owning equipment.

The lesson of this outage isn’t that ordinary people have failed to prepare. It’s that we’ve been made dangerously dependent on aging public infrastructure controlled by private monopolies whose priorities were shaped around quarterly profits long before this emergency began.

When an essential service is centralized, monopolized, under-maintained, and shielded from meaningful accountability, the public pays for its failure, sometimes for days, and sometimes for weeks. This outage should be a warning. Don’t wait for the next failure to start building resilience for yourself, household, and community.

Americans, on average, live in four year increments. The rhythm of their lives isn’t dictated by personal growth, meaningful achievement, or deep understanding, but by the shallow pulse of political theater. Every four years, like clockwork, a new president is elected, the curtains lift, and the populace is given a fresh protagonist or antagonist to project their hopes and fears onto. Presidents have become little more than characters in a series. The public doesn’t consume politics as serious engagement with power, but as episodic entertainment, much like their favorite television shows.

The problem, however, is that unlike a television series, the stakes here are real, and the damage cumulative. But due to the meticulously engineered short attention span of the American public, each episode is treated as if it exists in isolation. Each new administration is framed as either the salvation or the downfall of the nation, and yet, after decades, the trajectory is unmistakably the same.

It’s no coincidence that elections, school systems, debt cycles, military campaigns, and even corporate business cycles follow the same four year or quadrennial pattern. They’ve been structured to mirror the attention span of a population conditioned to forget. Every four years, the populace is given just enough newness, a new face, a new scandal, a new slogan to reset the conversation and prevent memory from threatening the legitimacy of the system itself.

Those who vote aren’t participating in governance, but rather consuming a brand. Every administration, left or right, is advertised as the most decisive, the most dangerous, the most consequential, only for the next to be heralded the same way.

Americans, by design, are conditioned to believe that the worst began only recently. The Bush years were ‘the worst’ until Obama came along. Then Obama was ‘the worst’ until Trump. One of the most chilling examples that’s been almost entirely forgotten was the infamous snitch line during the Obama years. Under the guise of combating ‘misinformation’ about the Affordable Care Act, the federal government encouraged Americans to report each other, even their own family members, for voicing dissent. Public schools and community programs urged children to report their parents if they spoke unfavorably about the Individual Mandate or the ACA. This isn’t ancient history. This isn’t a product of Cold War paranoia. It was less than two decades ago under a president still widely revered.

The idea that one couldn’t even freely discuss politics or policy within the confines of their own home without fear of being reported (by their own children, no less) sounds like the kind of dystopian scenario Americans smugly attribute to totalitarian regimes abroad. But it happened right here. The outrage, if there genuinely was any, lasted less than a cycle. Today, most have forgotten it happened at all. Many will deny it if confronted. It’s been successfully memory holed.

And yet, those paying attention recognize the pattern. Obama’s snitch line wasn’t unique. Bush’s mass warrantless surveillance under the Patriot Act was absorbed into normalcy, then expanded. Clinton’s draconian crime bill, which devastated communities across the country, has been laundered into historical footnotes. Reagan’s ‘War on Drugs’ still echoes in every overpoliced neighborhood. Each administration builds upon the authority, infrastructure, and precedents of the previous, creating a seamless continuation of infringements justified by law, necessity, or emergency.

The four year cycle doesn’t allow the average person to reflect long enough to recognize this continuity. Instead, the focus is always the current president. This encourages forgetfulness and also the comforting illusion that if only we elect the ‘right’ person next time, everything will be set right. This cycle is the political equivalent of learned helplessness, and it thrives on short attention spans.

The system itself secretly relies on this. Americans aren’t conditioned to engage history, but to consume it as a series of disconnected moments. There’s no context. There’s no memory. This is why an administration can implement policies one year that would have sparked revolt the year before, but once framed in the ‘current crisis,’ will be accepted or even applauded. The population is always looking at this president, this law, this scandal, this outrage, and rarely asking how it fits into the larger pattern.

From an anarchist perspective, this isn’t accidental, nor is it merely unfortunate. It’s inherent to a system that doesn’t actually function for the individual, but rather exists to manage and direct individuals in service to institutional power. The average American, conditioned to live in political amnesia, never becomes an actual participant in governance, but rather a passive consumer of narratives carefully managed to obscure the nature of power itself.

So the charade continues. Each administration inherits and expands the tools of the last. Each new president is either feared as the next dictator or heralded as the next savior. Each scandal is treated as if it is brand new. But some of us remember. Some of us carry the knowledge of continuity, knowing fully well that the problem is not, and has never been, about who holds office. It’s about how easily most people forget.

If you see anyone within “liberty movement” circles ritualistically posting about Fishnet Friday with a series of relevant imagery, this is potentially bait. Every like and comment is placed into a database of prospective targets to exploit, triangulate and destabilize. Sex trafficking can be many things, and sometimes it’s coercive control techniques that lure victims into the sex trade and porn industry. These victims should be given the same amount of protection, understanding and compassion as someone who is kidnapped off the street.

If someone within the same circle says, hints or suggests that they’re not wearing pants, this may be a trafficking ring code/call to action and/or grooming technique. They will also hint at knowing specific details about your private life, such as sexual activities with your partner, which is exploitation of private data.

Invisible “crazy making” campaigns can seem hard to believe, but they’re real. They’re not just limited to cults, politics, or governments either. The same tactics are also used by triangulated sex trafficking rings to destabilize victims, isolate them, and make them easier to control or erase without leaving clear evidence.

Psychological warfare destabilizes prisoners of war for the same reasons: to rewire them psychologically and convince them they’re something they’re not so they engage in behaviors they’ve been coerced into engaging in.

What gets labeled as “crazy” isn’t always irrational behavior. Sometimes it’s a reaction to abuse, manipulation, or threats that other people can’t see, and that invisibility is part of what makes victims seem paranoid or delusional.

I can’t stress this enough: “crazy” isn’t always crazy. Sometimes it’s by design so the target is easy to ignore and disappear without a trace.

People keep trying to color code philosophy like it’s a map with clean borders. Red for this, blue for that, black, white, left, right, light, dark. As though thought itself can be sorted into neat emotional palettes and ideological boxes.

Philosophy doesn’t behave like that. It bleeds and contradicts itself. It evolves mid sentence. It holds opposing truths in the same breath and refuses to apologize for the tension. When you assign it a color, you flatten it, which reduces something alive into something decorative. It’s a comfort ritual to color code philosophy. It makes ideas feel safer, more predictable, easier to signal and share. But in doing so, it transforms inquiry into identity, and identity into a cage.

Once something is labeled, people stop engaging with it. They react to the color instead of the substance. They inherit positions instead of wrestling with them.

Nowhere is this more ironic than in conversations about anarchy.

Anarchy was never meant to be a static doctrine or a museum piece curated from the writings of dead philosophers. It’s not a finished product. It’s a living, breathing philosophy that demands expansion, reinterpretation, and confrontation with the present reality.

Too many people treat anarchist thought as though it begins and ends with figures from the past, and intellectual authority is something fossilized rather than continuously unfolding. But we are not spectators to philosophy. We are participants in it. Each of us, shaped by the complexities of the modern world, carries perspectives those before us could never fully anticipate.

To remain intellectually frozen in inherited concepts isn’t rebellious. It’s obedient. It’s the comfort of imitation dressed up as “free thinking”.

At its core, anarchy is forward thinking. It’s experimental, and evolves alongside human consciousness, technology, and social reality. It isn’t about just preserving and color coding ideas, but encourages us to challenge, refine, and even contradict them when necessary.

It’s always been philosophy, not branding, aesthetics, color schemes or ideological uniforms.

I’m not interested in pre-packaged thought. I don’t want a philosophy that matches a tribe or fits into a visual identity. I want the kind that unsettles me, reshapes itself as I grow, and forces me to sit in ambiguity without rushing toward resolution. Truth isn’t a color. It’s a process. That’s the very essence of philosophy.

When you try to organize it like a palette or a fixed ideology, you stop seeing it clearly, and instead start seeing only what you’ve been trained to recognize.

When John Walker Lindh was pulled, disoriented and frostbitten, from the desolate Afghan hillsides in late 2001, the world saw a villain. Americans called him the “American Taliban,” a traitor who had turned his back on his country in favor of a medieval theocracy. Yet, what lay beneath the headlines was a human riddle, or an almost clinical demonstration of how identity itself can be dissolved and rewritten under the right sequence of psychological pressures.

Lindh’s journey did not begin on a battlefield, but in a quiet, liberal suburb of Marin County, California. By all appearances, he was a bright, introspective boy, inclined toward language, poetry, and spiritual seeking. That seeking, and a restless hunger for meaning in a culture saturated with noise, made him, paradoxically, the perfect subject for an emergent form of soft radicalization that would later resemble, in structure and intent, the methodologies described in intelligence manuals and cult deprogramming case studies.

Brainwashing, though treated in popular culture as a Cold War relic or a cinematic cliché, is far from fictional. Psychological conditioning does not require electrodes or laboratory hypnosis. It thrives instead on isolation, deprivation, and the gradual reframing of a person’s moral landscape until old loyalties seem delusional and new ones feel like salvation. Lindh’s transformation was not a matter of overnight persuasion, but of a progressive erosion of psychological autonomy.

By the time he arrived in Yemen and later Pakistan to study Islam, Lindh had entered what psychologists might call a “totalistic environment.” It was a system in which every aspect of thought, routine, and language was controlled to channel the convert’s identity toward a single ideological endpoint. He was immersed in a linguistic and cultural cocoon where everything (ritual, cadence, dress, even vowel formation) reinforced a single narrative: Western corruption versus spiritual purity.

The accent he eventually acquired symbolized more than mimicry. It was the final grafting of an imposed linguistic rhythm onto the deeper architecture of his self. The tongue changed because the worldview did.

Such transformations follow a particular rhythm known to military and intelligence psychologists. Step one: establish controlled isolation, ensuring the subject’s only source of information and validation comes from the group. Step two: dismantle prior identity markers, language, nationality, moral relativism. Step three: replace the void with a purified ideal, usually expressed in the language of moral certainty and divine purpose.

This gradual collapse and reconstruction of the ego mirrors what prisoners of war endure in ideological “re-education” camps, or what trafficking survivors later describe as “falling under a spell.” It is persuasion stripped of reason and replaced by emotional entrapment.

What makes Lindh’s case especially poignant is that, unlike trained spies or soldiers subjected to known techniques, he sought transformation voluntarily. He was not captured and enslaved: he was absorbed. His radicalizers did not need whips or cages, only belonging, propaganda and coercive control techniques.

For a young man starving for transcendence, their conviction radiated like warmth. Every human mind, when deprived of belonging and meaning, develops a sort of sensory hunger. Indoctrinators feed that hunger in precise doses until the subject begins to believe that obedience itself is freedom.

When critics dismiss mind control as “pseudoscience,” they overlook how modern psychological operations, cult indoctrination, and ideological grooming draw from the same psychological blueprint. Deindividuation, dependence, cognitive dissonance, and identity realignment are not theories: they are operational techniques. They do not merely change what a person believes, they change who the person is allowed to be.

Lindh’s accent, mannerisms, and internal narrative, all became artifacts of a rewired consciousness.

In the aftermath, when Lindh was captured and displayed on television screens, public revulsion served as a convenient buffer against the deeper discomfort of recognition. His story doesn’t reflect a singular pathology, but a universal vulnerability: the mechanism by which any person, given enough loneliness and ideology, can become a vessel for someone else’s beliefs. Before he ever carried a rifle, Lindh had surrendered something far more sacred: his agency.

The tragedy doesn’t just lie in his choices, but in the moral convenience of those who framed them. Hatred was easier than comprehension. Yet, if we strip the politics away, what remains is an unsettling parable of psychic colonization.

The American Taliban was not born. He was manufactured through techniques perfected in war zones, intelligence facilities, and religious compounds alike. His accent, that uncanny echo of his handlers, was the audible residue of transformation, and the sound of a mind that had been retuned to a foreign frequency.

In that sense, John Walker Lindh was less a traitor than a test case, and a window into the fragility of individuality under the pressure of certainty. His life remains a cautionary mirror: that brainwashing is not about intelligence or willpower, but about the human need to belong, and how easily that need can be weaponized.

Nietzsche’s declaration “God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him,” is a metaphorical statement about the cultural and philosophical shift in Western society rather than a literal assertion of God’s death. It reflects the collapse of traditional divine and moral influences, particularly those grounded in Christianity, which once provided absolute, universal truths and meaning to life. Nietzsche observed that the Enlightenment movement, scientific rationalism, and secularization had eroded the belief in a transcendent God, leaving a void where the ultimate source of values and purpose used to be.

In Nietzsche’s view, this “death” of God created a profound existential crisis: nihilism, where life risks being seen as devoid of intrinsic meaning, value, or purpose. Without the grounding presence of God, people face a cultural and spiritual vacuum that can lead to despair, apathy, and meaninglessness. Nietzsche warned that the replacement of God by materialism, state worship, or secular ideologies fails to fill this void adequately. Instead, these substitutes often result in a cycle of cultural decline and existential emptiness.

But Nietzsche did not see this crisis simply as an end. He recognized it as a transitional moment. The loss of traditional values demands a revaluation of values and the emergence of self-determined meaning. Nietzsche believed the greatest challenge for humanity was to overcome nihilism by affirming life despite its inherent suffering and meaninglessness. This life-affirming stance requires enduring the inevitable suffering of separation from a society that once centered itself around divine meaning but now risks falling into eternal nothingness. For Nietzsche, this suffering was a catalyst for the rise of the “Übermensch” or “overman,” who creates new values and embraces self-determinism by transcending nihilism.

Nietzsche’s “God is dead” encapsulates a cultural and philosophical diagnosis: the decline of moral/divine and metaphysical absolutes has left humanity bereft of foundational meaning, potentially dooming it to nihilism. Yet, this death opens the possibility for humanity to create fresh values and affirm life in its fullness, including suffering, rather than retreat into despair or replace God with mere materialism or state power. This outlook reflects Nietzsche’s profound awareness of both the dangers and opportunities in modernity’s departure from theism.

If you’re one of Nietzsche’s critics, I hope you understand this often misunderstood statement better now.

In the tapestry of Christian faith, humility is heralded as a cornerstone virtue, yet an undercurrent of self appointed elitism often flows unspoken, weaving through communities and individual hearts alike. This phenomenon rarely announces itself with fanfare; instead, it manifests as subtle postures of judgment, exclusion, and presumed spiritual authority. At its heart lies a misinterpretation of grace: one where believers, secure in their own perceived standing before God, elevate themselves as arbiters of others’ faithfulness. Such elitism distorts the egalitarian essence of the Gospel, transforming a message of universal redemption into a hierarchy of the worthy and the unworthy.

At its core, this self elevation stems from pride, the ancient adversary of the soul, which whispers assurances of personal exceptionalism. Believers may unconsciously adopt an us versus them mentality, viewing doctrinal purity, moral rigor, or interpretive sophistication as badges of divine favor. This can lead to shaming those who falter in public displays of faith: whether through imperfect attendance at services, divergent theological views, or personal struggles that do not align with communal norms. In doing so, they appoint themselves gatekeepers, deciding who truly belongs in the fold, forgetting that grace is not a commodity to be doled out by human hands, but a gift freely given by the divine.

Philosophically, this self elevation echoes the Platonic ideal of a guardian class, yet it perverts the Christian call to servant leadership. Jesus himself dined with tax collectors and sinners, modeling radical inclusivity that challenged the religious elites of his time. Modern expressions of elitism, however, often invert this dynamic: Christians might withhold fellowship from those deemed lesser, perhaps those who have left the faith or who struggle with doubt, labeling them as outsiders while claiming moral high ground. This not only fosters division but reveals a profound irony: in striving for spiritual excellence, the elitist risks embodying the Pharisaic hypocrisy Jesus condemned, prioritizing rules over relationships and certainty over compassion.

Evangelical subcultures, in particular, can cultivate this arrogance through an emphasis on specialized knowledge or advanced spirituality. Such environments breed a sense that one’s insights, be they from seminary training, charismatic experiences, or cultural critique, elevate them above the ordinary faithful. This chronological snobbery, where contemporary interpretations dismiss historical or simpler expressions of faith, further entrenches elitism. It manifests in subtle ways: a condescending tone toward nominal Christians, exclusionary language in sermons, or online debates where disagreement isn’t met with dialogue but with dismissal. Yet, faith, as echoed across traditions, demands humility: the recognition that all stand equally in need of mercy, without claim to superiority.

This unspoken elitism is not universal among Christians, nor is it inevitable. It often hides behind noble intentions, such as upholding doctrinal integrity or promoting holiness. However, when unchecked, it corrupts the communal body, scattering the flock rather than gathering it, as prophets warned. The antidote lies in reclaiming the paradox of the cross: strength in weakness, leadership in service. By embracing vulnerability and extending grace without precondition, believers can dismantle these invisible hierarchies, fostering a faith that unites rather than divides. In the end, the greatest elitism is that of divine love itself: unearned, unbounded, and available to all who seek it.

And putting one foot in front of the other until there was nothing but peace and safety on the horizon.

When I helped a struggling Marxist acquaintance financially, my voluntary contribution was appreciated… at first. But almost immediately, gratitude turned into entitlement. My act of goodwill was judged insufficient because I didn’t give more to their collective of likeminded peers. My resources and time were now to be centrally “allocated” by a group that neither earned them nor respected the voluntary nature of my act. It was inferred that help wasn’t welcome if it left me “privileged” in any way.

This is the poison at the heart of Marxism: it is not about liberation: it is about forced equalization. It does not admire acts of voluntary kindness or cooperation unless they can be collectivized and redistributed by its own authority. It denies voluntary exchange because, in its view, no relationship can be legitimate unless all are dragged into the same level of need. Suffering, then, becomes the sacred equalizer.

Anarchism (real anarchism, not Marx’s state-directed transitional socialism) rejects forced collectivization just as strongly as it rejects statism. Free markets, mutual exchange, and voluntary solidarity allow people to rise by choice, to help one another because they want to, not because they are demanded into servitude by some collectivist morality police.

The Marxist imagines freedom as the state forcing everyone into uniform misery. The agorist imagines freedom as individuals building networks of voluntary cooperation outside the control of state or party. The first requires you to bow to their ideology before you are allowed to give or receive. The second says: live, trade, help, and grow…. all by mutual consent.

If Marxism means “you cannot help unless all are forced to suffer equally,” then it does not liberate humanity. It shackles it. Real anarchism that’s rooted in consent, exchange, and the sovereignty of individuals, is the only path that respects human flourishing, and that’s why I am a proud anarchist.

As a former EMR (Electronic Medical Records) technician and a staunch advocate of freedom, privacy, and everything Edward Snowden stood for, I cannot overstate my concerns over the Trump administration’s latest assault on our basic right to privacy. This new health records “upgrade” (sold as a step into the digital age) looks like nothing more than a thinly veiled data grab by mega corporations and an overreaching government.

Let’s call it what it is: a mass handover of your most intimate, sensitive information to tech giants like Google, Amazon, and Apple, and health insurance behemoths like UnitedHealth. You don’t have to be a whistleblower to recognize the dangers here: when some of the world’s most powerful and unaccountable entities get unrestricted access to your medical history, you’re not just making things more “convenient”, you’re giving up control over your body, your choices, your future.

We’ve already watched the government stretch the boundaries of legal and ethical data use…. often with zero repercussions and minimal oversight. Now, after years spent troubleshooting and fixing the weaknesses in existing EMR systems, I can personally attest to the fact that the problems never centered on “not enough data sharing”, but on far too little respect for patient consent, transparency, and fundamental rights. I have seen firsthand how data leaks, improper access, and rushed “upgrades” put patients at risk.

Think about it: your lab results, mental health diagnoses, prescriptions, genetic tests, reproductive choices…. all funneled into the same hands that brought you Cambridge Analytica and warrantless mass surveillance. It’s absurd to pretend that this is about “consumer empowerment” when YOU are the product being sold to the highest bidder.

Sure, the system promises opt-in consent. But, how many times have we seen “consent” buried behind confusing menus and pages of legalese? How long before convenience steamrolls liberty, and before “opting out” means losing access to care or basic functionality? And what stops these companies, whose business models thrive on exploiting personal data, from turning health insights into insurance denials, targeted advertising, or discrimination?

Let’s not spin this as innovation. Medical records don’t need Silicon Valley’s predatory “convenience.” They need trust, security, and patient control. If we learned anything from Snowden, it’s that once your data leaves your hands, you may never get it back. Convenience is not freedom if it comes at the expense of privacy. And true wellness starts with the right to keep your health and your life to yourself.

The Trap of Short-Term “Solutions”

When we demand political intervention, sanctions, ceasefires, or two-state deals, we are bargaining with the same systems that created the crisis. These “solutions” are Band-Aids on bullet wounds. They assume governments can be trusted to dismantle the very power structures that define them. But genocide is not a bug of statecraft: it is a feature. Every bomb dropped on Gaza, every checkpoint in the West Bank, reinforces the myth that safety comes from authority.

Political interventions are shortsighted because they ignore the root: humanity’s conditioned belief in rulers. We have been taught that chaos awaits without governments, so we cling to them even as they burn our world to the ground. This fear is what keeps the genocide machine running.

Changing Hearts and Minds: The Anarchist Project

Anarchy is not a utopia that will erupt overnight. It is a slow, intergenerational rewiring of how we relate to power. To refuse to take sides in state conflicts is not passivity: it is the first spark of this intellectual revolution. When we reject the false choice between Israeli or Palestinian statehood, we create space to ask radical questions, like:

• Why do we accept that land must be controlled by governments?

• What if safety came from community accountability, not armies or police?

• How do we unlearn the idea that we “must” obey strangers with badges, in uniform, or official government titles and designations?

This is the work of education, not legislation. And by education, I don’t mean the institution of academia. It requires teaching children to see cooperation as default, and hierarchy as absurd. It means rebuilding our understanding of “security” around mutual aid networks instead of militaries. It demands that we grieve, not just the lives lost in Palestine, but the centuries of indoctrination that made such loss possible.

The Machinery of Change: Thinking Differently

Governments are not buildings or laws, they are ideas. They exist because we collectively agree to pretend they are legitimate. The real battle is in intellectually dismantling that agreement.

For example, when we glorify “leaders” or “nations,” we feed the myth that some humans are inherently entitled to rule others. Anarchists counter this by spotlighting everyday acts of autonomy: neighborhood councils that operate without politicians, grassroots disaster relief that outperforms bureaucracies, or communities resolving conflicts through dialogue rather than courts. Each of these acts is a classroom. They prove that another world is possible, not through force, but through demonstration.

Ending Genocide Requires Killing the Idea of Government

Genocide persists because states have a monopoly on the stories we tell. They frame violence as “security,” occupation as “destiny,” and resistance as “terrorism.” To break this, we must starve states of their greatest weapon: our belief in their necessity.

This means refusing to legitimize their narratives. I do not “stand with” Israel or Palestine: I stand with the parent teaching their child that no one has the right to steal a home. I stand with the Israeli teenager rejecting conscription. I stand with the anarchists in Ramallah distributing food without permits. These acts are not gestures: they are the DNA of the world anarchists dream of.

The Long Game

I am often accused of idealism, as if believing in humanity’s capacity to evolve is naïve. But what is truly naïve is trusting governments to stop genocide when their existence depends on division.

The path to ending violence in Palestine (and everywhere) is not through political deals, but through generations of humans growing up in communities that prioritize collaboration over control. It requires us to stop seeking quick fixes and start planting seeds.

Anarchy is not a distant dream. It is a daily practice of thinking, teaching, and rebuilding. When we choose to change minds instead of picking sides, we don’t just protest genocide: we erase the soil it grows in.
